Let’s explore Revolution Slider – The # 1 WordPress Plugin . How to create Post Based Slider in WP with the help of Rev Slider? How to keep text and shapes within View-port? How to create Global / Static Layer?
In this Task # 15 (which is basically Part 2) of three months Absolutely Free Training for WordPress Developers under Mission #WPSpartans300 Mission 2019, we continued exploring Revolution Slider to create WP Posts based Slides. In Task # 14 (which was part #1 ), we had a comprehensive tour of UI and other settings i.e. How to include/ exclude Global JS Libraries etc? How to add page or post IDs?
In this tutorial, we started our discussion with Global / Static Layers. We demonstrated how can we create one and why do we need them? In revolution slider, we can create Static layer in two different ways:
1) We can import any object from any layer and put them on global or master layer. Or,
2) We can click on extreme left box to activate master layer’s panel. Then on blank layer, we can add logos, text elements, html elements, shapes, images or even videos etc.
Note: The content of global layer will remain visible on all slides. We can also add different creative animations to static layer and all effects will start rendering on each slide.
Then we experimented with responsiveness of slider images and titles. We adjusted font size for large screens, notebooks, tablets and Mobile Phones. We also changed color for mobile, and it was a success. Finally, we explored the visibility mode and tried to hide Android Logo and #WP300Spartans Logo for smaller screens, and hurrah we got succeeded.
In the final part of this task, we created a detailed WordPress post Based Slider with Revolution Slider. When we change content source (or slider type), relevant setting options open. We explored how to add post categories to the slider. If we want to select more than one category, we can press and hold Shift Key from our Keyboard, and we can select as many categories as we want to show in the slider.
We can also select number of posts and excerpt length. We can show popular, recent or posts with specific categories and tags.
We then fetched Featured Image from selected posts. Then we moved on towards adding {{title}} link with the help of {{link}} tag. The title was displaying on each slide and it was clickable. We changed color and added some cool animation to each post slide’s title.
We also added excerpt (55 characters limit). We then learnt how to break line to keep it within set div width and auto height. We also changed color for the excerpt content.
We also announced that in Task # 16, we’ll create WooCommerce and Carousel Sliders with Revolution Slider and plus a few more tips and secrets will be shared. Hats off to Themepunch Dev Team for creating such a wonderful WordPress Plugin for the Community around thw world. Let see what they come up with when WordPress 5.0 comes out of secret caves.
